Mui Nghe

Mui Nghe is one of three mountains associated with the history of the formation of the Son Tra peninsula. The reason it is called Mui Nghe or Hon Nghe comes from the shape of the mountain like a sea lion lying with its head facing the rocky mountain, facing the sea.

How to get there?

Mui Nghe is located at the far eastern tip of Son Tra Peninsula, approximately 15 km from Da Nang city centre (Han River Bridge area). By motorbike (strongly recommended), rental costs 100,000–150,000 VND (~4–6 USD) per day. Follow Vo Nguyen Giap Street north along My Khe Beach, then continue onto Hoang Sa Road. Pass Linh Ung Pagoda (the Lady Buddha) and continue east for approximately 5 km. Look for a small dirt track on your right after the road surface deteriorates – this is the trailhead. By private car or taxi, the journey takes 30–45 minutes and costs 250,000–350,000 VND (~10–15 USD) one way. However, cars cannot reach the trailhead; they will drop you on Hoang Sa Road, from which you must walk an additional 800 metres to the jungle trail. By xe ôm (motorbike taxi), negotiate 120,000–150,000 VND (~5‑6 USD) one way. Public buses do not serve Mui Nghe; take Bus #8 to Linh Ung Pagoda (15,000 VND / ~0.60 USD) and then hire a xe ôm for the remaining 5 km.
