Airport History and Structure
The airport we see today was officially opened in 2011 after a major renovation. It is currently one of the most modern airports in the region. Looking forward, the Vietnamese government has proposed a large upgrade project for 2026 to 2030 to increase the airport's capacity to 7 million passengers per year. The airport is very easy to navigate because it has one main terminal for both domestic and international flights.
The building has two levels:
1. 1st Floor (Ground Floor): This is the Arrivals hall. When you land, you will come here to collect your luggage, pass through customs, and find your transport to the city.
2. 2nd Floor(Upper Floor): This is the Departures hall. This floor is where you will find the check-in counters, security gates, and the waiting lounge before your flight leaves.
Commonly Used Airport Services
Can Tho Airport provides everything a modern traveler needs. Most services are located on the Ground Floor: Free Wi-Fi & Water: You can connect to the airport's free Wi-Fi as soon as you land. There are also free drinking water stations located near the restrooms in the departure lounge. SIM Cards & Money Exchange: If you need a local SIM card or want to change money into Vietnamese Dong (VND), there are several kiosks in the Arrivals hall. Bank & ATM: There are multiple ATMs from major banks located near the exit of the terminal for easy cash withdrawals. Dining & Shopping: You can find cafes serving local Vietnamese coffee and restaurants with quick meals. There are also "Department Stores" where you can buy famous Mekong Delta specialties like local handicrafts and dried fruits. Medical Services & Play Area: The airport has a medical room for emergencies and a small playground to keep children entertained while waiting.
Pro-Traveler Experience Tips
To have the best experience at Can Tho Airport, keep these simple tips in mind: Book an Aisle or Window Seat: When flying into Can Tho, try to get a window seat. You will get a beautiful view of the winding Mekong River and green rice fields from above. Online Check-in: Most airlines like Vietjet or Vietnam Airlines allow online check-in 24 hours before your flight. Use this to skip the long lines at the airport! Pack Power Banks in Hand Luggage: Like all airports in Vietnam, you must keep your portable chargers in your carry-on bag, not in your checked suitcase. Arrive Early: For domestic flights, arrive 2 hours before your flight. For international flights, arrive 3 hours early to ensure you have enough time for security. Small Cash for Tolls: Taxis leaving the airport must pay a small entrance fee (about 10,000 - 15,000 VND). The driver will usually add this to your final fare, so keep some small change ready.
