Lien Khuong International Airport (DLI) is the largest airport in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and the main gateway to the romantic city of Da Lat. Located in Duc Trong District, it is approximately 30 kilometers south of Da Lat's city center. The airport is famous for its unique architecture inspired by the "Wild Sunflower," a flower that covers the hills of Lam Dong province in bright yellow. Since becoming an international airport in 2024, it has become a vital hub for tourists flying from major cities in Vietnam and across Asia.
Airport History and Structure
Lien Khuong Airport has a long history, originally built by the French in 1933. It was significantly upgraded in 2009 with a new, flower-shaped terminal. In June 2024, it was officially recognized as an International Airport. To maintain high standards, a major renovation of the runway and technical systems is planned for 2026. The airport uses one large, modern terminal that serves both domestic and international flights. The building has two main floors:
Ground Floor: This is the Arrivals area. After landing, you will come here to pass through immigration (for international flights), collect your bags at the carousels, and exit to find transportation.
Second Floor: This is the Departures area. This floor is where you check in for your flight, pass through security, and wait at the boarding gates. It also features a VIP lounge and several shops.
Commonly Used Airport Services
- Free Wi-Fi & Water: You can connect to the "Lien Khuong Airport Free Wi-Fi" throughout the building. There are also free drinking water stations near the restrooms in the departure lounge.
- SIM Cards & Money Exchange: In the Arrivals Hall on the Ground Floor, you will find several kiosks selling local 4G/5G SIM cards and counters to exchange your currency into Vietnamese Dong (VND).
- Banks and ATMs: ATMs from major banks like Vietcombank are located near the exit doors of the Ground Floor.
- Tax Refund: If you are an international tourist, the VAT refund counter is located on the Second Floor (Departures) before you enter the security area.
- Dining & Shopping: There are cafes and restaurants serving hot Pho, coffee, and snacks. You can also buy local Da Lat specialties like dried fruits, flowers, and tea as souvenirs.
Pro-Traveler Experience Tips
- Check for Temporary Closures: In 2026, the airport has scheduled maintenance periods for the runway. Always double-check your flight status with your airline before heading to the airport.
- Dress in Layers: Da Lat is much cooler than other parts of Vietnam. Keep a light jacket or sweater in your carry-on bag so you are comfortable as soon as you step off the plane.
- Pre-book Private Transfers: If you are traveling in a group or have a lot of luggage, pre-booking a private car is often cheaper and more comfortable than taking multiple taxis.
- Arrive Early: Although the airport is efficient, it can get crowded during the "Flower Festival" or summer peak. Aim to arrive 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours for international ones.
- Keep Documents Ready: Have a printed copy of your hotel address and your e-visa (if applicable) ready for the immigration officers or your driver.
