Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) serves as the elegant and efficient gateway to Cambodia’s bustling capital. Located just 10 kilometers from the city center, PNH offers a boutique experience that contrasts the overwhelming scale of regional mega-hubs. In 2026, the airport continues to serve as a vital link for business and leisure travelers, featuring a modern international terminal with refined architectural touches inspired by Khmer culture. With a curated selection of premium lounges, duty-free shopping focusing on local craftsmanship, and streamlined immigration procedures, PNH ensures that your transition into the "Pearl of Asia" is as smooth as it is welcoming.
Introducing Phnom Penh International Airport
Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) has a long and storied history, serving as Cambodia’s main international gateway. Located just 10 kilometers west of the city center, it offers convenient access for arriving and departing travelers. The airport features separate terminals for international and domestic flights, ensuring a smooth flow of passengers.
Operated by Cambodia Airports, a company majority-owned by VINCI Airports, PNH has seen significant upgrades over the years. In 1995, a concession agreement with Cambodia Airport Investment led to a $100 million improvement program. Further expansions in 2014 increased its capacity to handle up to 5 million passengers annually.
While it will soon pass the torch for international commercial flights to the new airport, PNH will continue to play a vital role. It will serve domestic flights, military operations, and private aircraft, preserving its legacy in Cambodian aviation history.
Commercial operations cessation date
According to the Cambodian Government's plan, September 8, 2025, will be the last day Phnom Penh International Airport serves commercial flights and passenger transportation. After this time, all international and domestic civil aviation activities will be completely transferred to Techo International Airport - the new generation airport currently being completed.
This transition is part of phase two of Cambodia's aviation industry modernization strategy, aimed at building a synchronized, modern, and regionally competitive airport system.
New role after ending civil operations
Although closing and ceasing commercial passenger services, Phnom Penh airport will not be demolished or sold to private entities. Prime Minister Hun Manet has confirmed that this infrastructure will be preserved as a historically valuable structure, honoring the legacy of King Norodom Sihanouk - who laid the foundation for Cambodia's aviation industry from the 1950s.
In the future, the airport may be used for the following functions:
- Backup airport for military operations
- Supporting small-scale domestic flights
- Serving private aircraft and charter flights
- Emergency response or special rescue operations
