According to the Vietnam national weather center, a tropical depression in the East Sea strengthened into a storm named Kajiki on Saturday morning. It is the fifth storm to enter the region this year.

Storm Kajiki formed from a tropical depression after entering Vietnam’s waters on Saturday morning (23 August 2025) and is forecast to make landfall in the central region from Thanh Hoa to Hue around noon on Monday, 25 August 2025.
From Sunday afternoon (24 August), seas from Thanh Hoa to Hue will see winds rising from 39–61 kph to 89–102 kph, with areas near the storm center reaching 118–133 kph and gusts up to 166–180 kph; waves will be 4–6 m, increasing to 6–8 m near the center. Onshore in Thanh Hoa – Quang Tri, winds are expected at 62–88 kph Sunday night, strengthening to 89–133 kph near the storm center with gusts up to 155 kph, while the northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi) may see 39–50 kph, gusting to 89 kph, and waves of 2–3 m. From Sunday (24 August) through Tuesday (26 August), the Red River Delta (including Hanoi) and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue are likely to receive 100–150 mm of rain, locally over 250 mm; Thanh Hoa–Quang Tri may see 150–300 mm, with some areas exceeding 600 mm. Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City will also have rain and thunderstorms early next week.

Forecasters warn that sea and coastal areas in the storm’s path are very dangerous for boats, fish farms, and coastal infrastructure, with high risks of capsizing, flooding, and damage.
The storm, accompanied by a tropical depression, is expected to bring heavy rain to the western mountainous areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue. Accumulated rainfall, combined with steep terrain, is forecasted to trigger flash floods in several downstream areas of the rivers.
