Sao Beach (Bai Sao), Phu Quoc

Powdery white sand, calm turquoise water and a backdrop of swaying palm trees — Sao Beach (Bai Sao) is the postcard image of Phu Quoc that fills travel magazines and Instagram feeds. Located on the quieter southern tip of the island, it offers a more relaxed atmosphere than the heavily developed resort beaches to the north. Pack a good book, order fresh coconut water, and settle in for the kind of beach day that reminds you why you came to Vietnam.

How to get there?

Reaching this slice of paradise has become significantly more comfortable thanks to recent road upgrades completed in 2025.

  • By Motorbike: For the independent soul, renting a scooter (approx. 150,000 VND/day) is the classic choice. From Duong Dong town, you head south on the DT46 highway. The journey takes about 45 minutes. The final stretch involves a small, slightly bumpy path, but the sight of the turquoise water at the end is worth the vibration.
  • By Taxi or Private Car: This is the most popular option for families or groups. A one-way trip from central Duong Dong costs roughly 300,000 to 400,000 VND. In 2026, ride-hailing apps like Grab are fully operational in the south, though booking a round-trip with a local driver is often more economical.
  • By Guided Tour: Many "Southern Island" day tours include Bai Sao as their lunch stop. While convenient, these can feel rushed. If you want to experience the beach’s true soul, traveling independently is highly recommended.
